Okay I'm finished complaining about snow for now. It is still snowing and I am dealing with that as best I can. On the bright side, my new tires are performing extremely well in the snow and ice. I haven't even slid yet! At least my tires haven't, unfortunately I took a nice little tumble heading out of work last night. I basically fell forward, landed on my stomach and slid forward another two feet. It was pretty funny - like something out of Home Alone. I didn't quite bounce back up like those robbers but I'm okay.
As Christmas is fast approaching, I thought it might be fun to list some of the things I enjoy about the holidays.
1. I love buying presents for friends & family. I think I love this a little too much as I tend to go overboard (especially now that I have my two honorary nieces). Here is a cute picture of Sage & Livi (before Sage started liking her little sis)
2. Making special treats to give away
3. Eating special treats that people give me
4. Watching "A Christmas Story" over and over. FYI, starting at 8pm on Christmas eve, TBS will run it for 24 hours. Some people find this movie irritating. I, however, think it is hilarious! Favorite quotes of all time - and they won't make any sense unless you see the movie:
"Randy lay there like a slug. It was his only defense."
"Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window."
5. The day after Christmas sales. You may recall from previous postings that I love fighting through the surge of shoppers all intent on getting their hands on a $2 copy of Jumanji.
6. Hearing all the wonderful positive stories on the news. We see so many sad things but at the holidays, they try to show more of the good stuff. Like yesterday I watched a story about a "Secret Santa" who was just going to different locations and handing out cash to people in need. Or there was a story about a single mother's Christmas gifts that were stolen and then replaced by another family. It is nice to hear those stories and realize there are still lots of good people in this world.
We are expecting a big snow storm tomorrow. I'm not ready! My car is ready but I'm not. I HATE SNOW. I'm sure all you snowman-huggers out there are thinking, "why?" "snow is wonderful and beautiful" and "that's how we get our water supply". Well to you all I say "Bah Humbug"! I hate snow. Sure it seems magical when you are looking out the window! Well that is all well and good if you can stay in your house and never have to go out in it.
Then when you do drive in the snow it can feel like a heart attack wrapped up in a nightmare. I just love watching cars around me slide off the road while I have a death grip on my steering wheel that could rival a professional wrestler. There is nothing more magical then getting stuck in the snow and having to dig your tires out and put down carpet pads and rock the car back and forth to get out.
This video illustrates one of my least favorite things about the snow - cleaning off my car at the Trax station after a long day of work. Boy I just love tromping around in my snow boots, freezing my hind end off to brush the snow off my car. Oh then sometimes I have to dig my tires out too. By the time I get into my car I am exhausted and also wet - since the snow will stick to my coat and if I didn't brush it all off then I've got melting snow on my seat.
I know that I live in Utah and it snows a lot here. Every year I am smacked in the face with that realization and usually a big glob of snow falling of the roof. I'll deal with it but I don't have to like it! Amanda really really really hates snow!
